Towards a Borough of Sanctuary

Please come and join us in campaigning and working together to make Sutton a community that welcomes and supports refugees and migrants, and to get Sutton recognised as a ‘Borough of Sanctuary’.

Friday May 27th, 7.30–9.00pm, doors open at 7.00
at Friends Meeting House, Cedar Road, Sutton, SM2 5DA

Sutton for Peace and Justice in association with Refugee and Migrant Network Sutton
invites you to a meeting to bring together interested local people who want to make Sutton a community that does more to welcome and support refugees and migrants, and to work towards establishing the London Borough of Sutton as a ‘city of sanctuary’*.

Hear from speakers who will share their expert knowledge and personal experience, including:

  • Katie Barringer from Refugee Support Network
  • Lucy Minyo from Refugee and Migrant Network Sutton
  • and Antaneeta Jeyakumar, a refugee now living in Sutton will give her personal perspective
  • (other speakers invited, to be confirmed).

Take part as we consider:

  • Why people become refugees
  • The challenges refugees face and what needs to be done to help them
  • The practical steps we can take to make our community more welcoming and to support refugees and migrants
  • And how we can establish Sutton as a ‘Borough of Sanctuary’

* City of Sanctuary is a movement committed to creating a network of towns, cities and boroughs throughout the country which are proud to be places of safety for people seeking sanctuary and helping them integrate into their local community – www.cityofsanctuary.org

There is no entry charge, donations will be taken on the night.
