Towards a Borough of Sanctuary

Sutton for Peace and Justice in association with Refugee and Migrant Network Sutton invites you to a meeting – ‘Towards a Borough of Sanctuary’.

Friday May 27th, 7.30–9.00pm, doors open at 7.00,

at Friends Meeting House, Cedar Road, Sutton, SM2 5DA.

Please join us in Campaigning and working together to make Sutton a community that welcomes and supports refugees and migrants, and to get Sutton recognised as a ‘Borough of Sanctuary’.

Hear from speakers with expert knowledge and personal experience, including:

  • Lucy Minyo from Refugee and Migrant Network Sutton.
  • Katie Barringer from Refugee Support Network (Croydon).
  • A refugee who will give a personal perspective on living in Sutton.
  • And other speakers invited.

Take part in the consideration of:

  • Why do people become refugees?
  • What are the facts about refugees in the UK and locally?
  • How have migrants benefited Sutton?
  • What are the challenges refugees face and what needs to be done to help them?
  • What practical steps can we take to make our community more welcoming and to support refugees and migrants?
  • And how can we establish Sutton as a ‘Borough of Sanctuary’*?

Come along to find out more, engage in the debate and join us in the campaign.
