Our economy was destroyed and the poor were blamed

How it was done  and the myths that enabled it

Come and hear about how it was done and the myths that enabled it, and join in the discussion of the issues and what can be done about it.

On Friday 30 May 2014. At Friends House, Cedar Road, Sutton, SM2 5DA.

Doors open 6.30pm for 7pm start start.

‘Neo-liberal’ (or ‘neo-con’) economists dominate current economic thinking in our financial institutions, government departments and most educational institutions.  Their thinking has been embraced by right-leaning politicians since Thatcher/Reagan, for their own political ends and the benefit of their backers.

They failed to see the 2008 crash coming. Then they blamed the poor and punished them for the economic mess their policies had created.  Without shame, banks were bailed out with taxpayers money and unnecessary austerity was inflicted upon us – all justified by myths such as “greed is good”.

Implementing neo-liberal ideas has led to food banks, ‘zero-hours’ contracts, unaffordable housing, privatisation of parts of the NHS, the ‘bedroom tax’, obscene bonuses, war in Iraq and non-paid internships – undermining attempts in the 30 years after  the 1939-45 war to build a more equal society.

Come and hear about how they did it and join  in the discussion of the urgent need for change and how we might move to a more equal and therefore happier UK.
